My first and only miserable day on the trail. I only had a measly 200m to climb today from Lobuje to Gorak Shep. I had been feeling so good that I thought I could go on to Kala Pattar or Base Camp the same day. NOT SO. I almost turned around on the trail, it wasn’t really that hard, but the last 1/3 was constant up and down in loose gravel and rocks. I had a horrible headache and had to stop to rest after every 10 steps or so. I finally made it to Gorak Shep and practically collapsed. Someone gave me some Diamox (for altitude sickness) and after a few hours I felt much better. I just hung around the rest of the day, didn’t do anything, and although freezing here at 5100m, I started to feel human again.
