My flight from Bangkok included a layover of one night in Dhaka and included free accommodation and meals. It was much cheaper than the other airlines and who can pass up one night in Dhaka? It turned out to be a decent hotel with inside bathroom, TV, and air/con. Probably the nicest place I’ll end up staying!
There were 2 japanese and 4 young (20ish) Indian guys in my hotel. One of the Indians decided to sing for us (a capello) after dinner. Just like a group of four young guys in the US, right?
I do have to mention the Bangladeshi man on the plane from Bangkok (we also stopped in Yangon, Myanmar, or Rangoon, Burma, as Dad would say). He kept blowing on himself to get off dust or something and blowing it on me. So when he wasn’t looking I’d blow it back on him. The airplane was smelly as were the people (something I will have to get used to on the subcontinent), it was really the “chicken bus” of airlines. I didn’t actually see live poultry on the plane, but I suspect it was there.
On the flight to Kathmandu, I mostly saw large flooded areas, with just little shining roofs above ground. Did you know that George Harrison’s Aid for Bangladesh concert was the first of the music aid festivals? Also, Bangladesh became a nation in 1971, it was formerly East Pakistan. After seeing it, I can’t believe they had to fight to gain independence. I’d have thought Pakistan would think good riddance.
